SLRC Becomes A Membership Organization

BLACK MOUNTAIN, NC – The Southern Legal Resource Center, which since 1996 has been defending the rights of Southerners to honor their unique heritage, has now become a membership-based organization.

The SLRC will retain its status as a U.S. 501 ( c ) (3) registered public charity, but now, instead of subsisting mainly on casual contributions, pass-the-hat donations and occasional grants to support its participation in heritage-related litigation, it will offer renewable memberships at a flat annual fee of $35.00, according to SLRC Board Chairman Dr. Neill Payne.

“The Board has debated going to a membership format for some time, and we even asked our newsletter readers what they thought,” Payne said.  The overwhelming consensus was that, yes, we should do so.”

“The benefits to us, of course, are that it gives us a nucleus of support,” said Executive Director Roger McCredie, “and our members, besides getting a pin and a certificate, will have the satisfaction of knowing they have an active voice in our operations and are fighting right alongside us to defend our heritage.  Plus, membership is tax deductible.”

A membership application form may be downloaded from the SLRC’s website, www.slrc-csa.org, or obtained by calling the SLRC toll-free at (866) 564-8747, e-mailing mim@slrc-csa.org,  or writing to the SLRC at P.O. Box 1235, Black Mountain, NC 28711.

SLRC officials also announced a special new member incentive for the Month of August.  For a contribution of $75.00 or more, members joining by August 31 will receive, in addition to their SLRC membership pin and certificate, a complimentary Harvard Confederate memorial Initiative (HCMI) pin AND a beautifully embroidered HCMI blazer badge.  “These are the same premiums we will be offering to the general public later this fall when we kick off our campaign to establish a memorial to the Harvard Confederate Dead [see the SLRC website], said SLRC Chief Trial Counsel Kirk D. Lyons, “but new members can obtain them right now, together with their full first year membership and their SLRC credentials – all for just $75 or more.”
